I have developed mathematical and digital models; Some mathematical models have been published. Some years ago, I derived the following equation (published in a paper listed above). This gives the speed with which a wave moves in a pipe filled with a liqiud or gas.

Wave speed equation in an elastic pipe

This is the speed with a disturbance travels in a pipe or blood vessel when, for example, a valve is suddenly closed. The following animation should give an idea of a disturbance travelling in a pipe.

Pipe flow

How a wave travels in a pipe or blood vessel: the wave deforms the pipe as it travels.

I have worked in engineering areas such as mechanical, materials, instrumentation, processing, systems mostly as a research engineer but have also worked as an engineer/consultant. Some projects include:

  • Design of an experimental rig to test pressure transients.
  • Validate temperature sensor behaviour in installations.
  • Test pressure sensors.
  • Create database for composite materials selection
  • Polymer materials selection database revision and update.
  • Design of rig for explosion damage in high pressure vessels.
  • Design billing software and implementat for an embedded system.
  • Enhance and maintain various features for ISDN software for embedded systems.
  • Contribute to development for protocols software for ISDN converters in several embedded systems.

I have tought several courses; amongst them were:

  • Biomedical Fluid Dynamics.
  • Design of Biomedical Devices.
  • Polymer processing.

I have carried extensive research in each of the areas mentioned on this page.
